There’s nothing that says “Hey, I’m a thriving, self-centered individual” like flying a drone to capture your absolutely mid round of golf on video. Having a drone for golf is like having a newly discovered superpower. You always WANT to use it, but there’s really only a few scenarios where it makes sense to. And don’t even get me started on the state of panic that flying a drone on the golf course creates. ‘Will the civilians be accepting of my new superpower? What are the legal intricacies involved with such capabilities?  Why are Magneto AND the ranger speeding at me in a golf cart!?’

With the release of the Neo Mini Drone, DJI has given EVERYONE the superpower to be drone operators. At this point, you may be asking, “But Swaggy, flying a drone requires skill, and I lack skill.” Well, my unskilled friend that is why our homies at DJI, who probably feel the same way about you, put AUTO-TRACK FOLLOWING capability into this beauty of a device.

So, how does this translate to golf? The Neo essentially gives the everyday man the ability to capture 4K video of his entire round of golf- every swing, every bomb, every dart, every chunk.  Just a couple of swipes on a synced smart phone, and this lil bot is creepin’ on your every shot (TM). The ability of this device to follow is what truly sets it apart from other drones in the same price category. Not having to mess with joysticks or worry about being a decent drone pilot is LITERALLY a game changer when trying to focus on a round of golf.

The applications of this technology to one’s golf game are limitless. Any seasoned golfer knows that video of a player’s swing is the lifeblood for correction and improvement, even if it requires additional navigation from a swing coach. For the social media freaks out there, having a relatively inexpensive fleet of drones with following capabilities in the arsenal could revolutionize content creation like we’ve never seen before.

If it seems like I am coming off too pro-drone, there is one glaring imperfection about the Neo that does concern me as a content creator. Unlike other more expensive DJI drones, which have admirably adapted and feature VERTICAL 4K video capture, the Neo does not. If you are filming with the Neo for smart phone intended social media, you will lose out on video quality as you crop and enlarge your images to fit in a vertical orientation.
